DEMOREST, Ga. – Guard A.J. Mosby was named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I 2014-15 Freshman of the Year and made the first-team all-conference and all-freshman teams, the league announced this week.
The 6-foot-2 sharp-shooter from Cartersville High School is averaging 16.8 points per game, third in GCAA Division I entering the conference tournament, which begins this Tuesday, March 3. Mosby is first in the conference in three-point percentage at 47.5 percent and first in free-throw percentage at 84.7 percent. He also averages four rebounds and three assists per game.
This season, Mosby has topped 20 points eight times, scoring a season-high 26 points in a home win over Atlanta Metro on Jan. 21. He has also scored 19 points five times, including in each of the last three regular-season games.
Mosby is the second Golden Eagle in a row to be named conference Freshman of the Year, following point guard Amonte Potter, who is now at Georgia Southern.
Mosby and the Golden Eagles host Atlanta Metro in the first round of the GCAA tournament this Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Smyrna Community Center. Chattahoochee Tech, the fourth seed in the GCAA tourney, finished the regular season with a 22-8 overall record and 10-8 conference record.
