DEMOREST, Ga. – Chattahoochee Tech men's hoops had three players honored in the GCAA Division I all-conference teams released this week, including point guard Amonte Potter as first-team All-GCAA, first-team All-Freshman and conference Freshman of the Year.
Guards Alyja Hennings and Alijah Bennett were also honored, with Hennings earning second-team all-conference and Bennett joining Potter on the all-freshman team.
Potter, a 6-foot freshman point guard from Sprayberry High School in Marietta, Ga., who averaged 15.9 points, 3.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game in the regular season, led the Golden Eagles to a 25-5 overall and 15-5 conference record heading into the GCAA Tournament. Potter led Chatt Tech with 25.8 minutes per game as the team's primary ball-handler, and shot 46.2 percent from the floor and 42.1 percent from three, good for third in the conference from long range.
Hennings led the Golden Eagles in points per game in the regular season with 17.7, rebounds per game with 7.3 and overall field-goal percentage at 51.5 percent. The 6-2 sophomore from Milton High School in Milton, Ga., was also second on the team to Potter in three-point percentage at 41.2 percent.
Bennett, a 6-1 guard and high school teammate of Potter's at Sprayberry, also enjoyed an outstanding freshman season in which he averaged 14.9 points per game on 45.7 percent shooting from the field, including 40.5 percent from three, and 3.2 assists per game.
