Americus, GA - AJ Mosby lifted the Eagles to a huge road victory after hitting a shot from just past half court as the buzzer sounded, squeezing past South GA Tech 90-89.
Behind Ryan Davis' 22 first half points, the Eagles built as much as 21 point lead, before settling on a seemingly comfortable 53-36 lead at the intermission. But, SGTC had other plans, as they came out in the second half and gradually worked themselves back into the game behind balanced scoring and outstanding periemter shooting. Mosby picked his scoring up down the stretch and wound up scoring 22 himself after halftime.
Trailing by three with 15 seconds left, Mosby was fouled shooting a trey and sank all three, even as an SGTC player chided him while on the FT line. SGTC promptly came down and got a runner in the lane to go back up 89-87 with only 2.2 seconds on the clock. Out of the timeout, Davis inbounded to a racing Mosby, who took one dribble and launched the shot before the buzzer sounded. The ball floated in slow motion before hitting the backboard and going in, letting the Eagles survive the impressive comeback attempt by the Jets.
Mosby finished with 33 on the night, while Davis had 32. Arthur Bennett also turned in a solid night 13 points, 9 rebounds.
The #14 ranked Eagles moved to 16-1 on the season and will now return home to host Southern Crescent Tech on Thursday night at the Smyrna Community Center. Tipoff is at 7:30pm.
