Atlanta-The Golden Eagles got their GCAA slate started on the road Saturday and split a pair of games at Atlanta Metro, winning the second game in dramatic fashion.
The men's squad survived in a 58-55 win, as Keith Ray hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to break a tie and give the Golden Eagles (13-2, 1-0) the victory. CTC was led by Jamion Simpson's 18 points, while Ray ended up second on the team with 11. Chatt Tech got 10 points from Jalen Mitchell and eight points, six assists and three steals from Malik Jordan. Ben Drake led the team with eight rebounds.
The CTC men held Atlanta Metro (6-10, 1-2) to just 38 percent shooting from the field, and the Trailblazers shot just two free throws in the game, offsetting a 50-33 rebounding deficit for the Golden Eagles.
The Lady Golden Eagles (13-2, 0-1) fell in their first conference game 69-50 despite 21 points, nine rebounds and three steals from Mariya Trimble. Trimble shot 8-of-16 from the field, but the rest of her teammates had a cold night from the field against AMC (6-11, 2-1). Tymeshia Dozier was the only other player in double-figures with 10 points, as Janelly Plummer added eight.
