Waycross, Ga.-The Chattahoochee Tech men outlasted South Georgia State 114-111 in a marathon game that went three overtimes.
After regulation ended at 94-94, the Golden Eagles (19-7, 7-5 GCAA) ended the first two overtimes even with six points apiece in each. After Nkem Ojeh hit a layup with nine seconds remaining in the third overtime, South Georgia State missed a three-pointer and CTC rebounded at the buzzer to preserve the win.
Keith Ray led the Golden Eagles with 21 points, going 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-8 from three and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line despite eventually fouling out. Philip Garner had 17 points off the bench on five three-pointers, and point guard Malik Jordan had 16 points.
Other Golden Eagles in double-figure scoring include Jamion Simpson (14 pts), Jalen Mitchell (14 pts) and Tony Pruitt (10 pts). Jeremiah Shaw chipped in eight points, and Ben Drake and Ojeh each contributed six points.
The win puts CTC two games over .500 in conference play for the first time this season and puts the Golden Eagles all alone in fourth place in the GCAA standings, a half-game over South Georgia State. A top-four seed at the end of the regular season would give Chatt Tech the opportunity to host a first-round conference tournament game.
The team is in action again Wednesday, Feb. 20, at LakePoint against second-place Central Georgia Tech with a 7:30 tip-off.
