Golden Eagles Win Fifth-Straight Conference Game, Down Central Georgia Tech 96-91

Emerson, Ga.-The Golden Eagles men (20-7, 8-5) won their fifth-straight conference game by outlasting Central Georgia Tech (19-7, 9-3) thanks to clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch.

Jamion Simpson was 4-of-4 from the line in the final 20 seconds, and Malik Jordan also hit two free throws with the game still in doubt in the final seconds. Simpson played all 40 minutes in the game and tied for the game-high in points with 28, hitting four of five threes and going 6-of-6 from the line for the game to go with five rebounds.

Nkem Ojeh came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting with 12 rebounds, and Jordan scored 15 points with six assists and five boards.

Philip Garner had 12 points, and Tony Pruitt had 10 on 5-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and three steals. Jalen Mitchell chipped in nine points.

The Golden Eagles fell behind early, with Central Georgia Tech taking the largest lead of the game at 27-11 in the first half, but then went on a strong 29-4 run to go up 40-31 with 3:00 mintutes left in the half. But, CGTC fought back to knot it at 40-all, before a tip at the buzzer by Jeremiah Shaw gave the Eagles a two point lead at the break. CTC also trailed 80-77 late in the game but went on a 7-0 run to take a four-point lead with 3:20 remaining.

The men maintain their hold on fourth place in the conference standings with three regular-season GCAA games remaining before the conference tourney. The Golden Eagles play next this Wednesday at Georgia Highlands, which is No. 1 in the standings. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
