Chattahoochee Tech wrapped up perhaps its finest outdoor track and field season since starting the program in 2006 with a school-record 24 athletes qualifying for last week’s NJCAA Division I National Championship meet in Levelland, Tex. The women’s finish of 16th nationally was the best team outdoor performance in the program’s history.

Men’s basketball signs first two players of 2012 recruiting class
MARIETTA—Chattahoochee Tech men’s basketball signed two incoming freshmen on Thursday, the first two players in the 2012 recruiting class. Malcolm Riley, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Selma High School in Selma, Ala., and Montford Varnedoe, a 6-5 forward from Action Sports Academy in Stone Mountain, Ga., signed LOIs with CTC at the college’s Marietta campus.
Freshman guard Hyppolite signs with NAIA Point University
MARIETTA—Chattahoochee Tech guard Stephan Hyppolite signed a scholarship to play for Point University on Thursday at the college’s Marietta campus. Hyppolite, who was already committed to Point as a preferred walk-on, is joining CTC teammates Brannon Hopkins and Devonn Pierce at the school in West Point, Ga.

Basketball standout Tiayra Green signs with Division II Wingate
MARIETTA—Chattahoochee Tech women’s basketball standout Tiayra Green signed a scholarship with NCAA Division II Wingate University. Green, a 6-foot guard/forward who spent her sophomore season with CTC, will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Lady Bulldogs.

Men’s basketball players Hopkins, Pierce sign LOI with Point University
MARIETTA—Chattahoochee Tech men’s basketball players Brannon Hopkins and Devonn Pierce signed with Point University on Tuesday, April 17 at CTC’s Marietta campus. Hopkins, a part-time starter on this season’s Golden Eagles squad, and Pierce, a redshirt during the 2011-12 season, will join Point’s program this fall.

Golden Eagles perform well at Gamecock Open Meet, qualify three more for NJCAA nationals
The Chattahoochee Tech men’s track and field team finished third out of 21 teams at the Emory Classic last weekend in Atlanta against a strong field of NCAA opponents. The Golden Eagles men finished with 102 overall points, just behind second-place Oberlin with 104 and trailing first-place Emory (170).

Archer named GCAA men’s region director for 2012-13
The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association and commissioner David Elder announced this week that Chattahoochee Tech athletic director David Archer was unanimously voted in as the men’s region director for the 2012-13 athletics year.
CTC wins bid to host 2013 NJCAA Half-Marathon National Championship race
The NJCAA announced this week at its annual legislative meetings in Colorado Springs, Col., that Chattahoochee Tech will host the 2013 NJCAA Half-Marathon National Championship race at the Silver Comet Trail. CTC hosted the event for the first time last November at a stretch of the Silver Comet near the college’s Paulding County campus, and welcomed over 200 runners from around the country. The event was CTC’s first hosted NJCAA national championship.

Golden Eagles fall to Albany Tech, 57-56, in GCAA first round
ALBANY—Chattahoochee Tech’s men’s basketball team fell in the final seconds of the first round of the GCAA tournament, losing 57-56 to Albany Tech on the road at nearby Darton College. The Golden Eagles, who took a 56-53 lead after an Asauhn Dixon-Tatum put-back dunk with 30 seconds remaining, lost the lead when ATC hit a 3-pointer to tie with 12 seconds to play.

CTC men’s hoops preparing for GCAA tourney opener Tuesday
The Chattahoochee Tech men’s basketball squad is gearing up for a road trip south to face Albany Tech on Tuesday, March 6 in the first round of the GCAA region tournament. Due to scheduling conflicts, the game will be played at the nearby Darton College gym with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Sophomore Tiayra Green Named To All-GCAA Second Team
Chattahoochee Tech small forward Tiayra Green was named GCAA women’s All-Second Team over the weekend, earning the honor after a season in which she led the Lady Golden Eagles to a conference tournament berth in the program’s first NJCAA season.
Bowie’s national title in triple jump highlights CTC trip to Indoor National Championships
Chattahoochee Tech track and field made history at Eastern Illinois University in the NJCAA Indoor National Championships on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3. Sophomore Darice Bowie gave CTC its first-ever individual national champion on Saturday by winning the women’s triple jump, besting the field with a mark of 12.09 meters (39’8”).

Dixon-Tatum, Tate earn All-Conference honors
The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association released its All-Region men’s basketball teams, and two Golden Eagles players received recognition for outstanding play during the regular season. Asauhn Dixon-Tatum, CTC’s 6-foot-11 sophomore center, earned second-team All-GCAA honors, as well as Defensive Player of the Year honors, and freshman point guard Sean Tate was an honorable mention all-region selection.

Sophomore center Asauhn Dixon-Tatum named GCAA Player of the Week

Dixon-Tatum, a 6-foot-11 center from Highland High School in Highland, Ind., helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 conference record last week with wins over Georgia Perimeter and Central Georgia Tech.

Golden Eagles get overtime victory over conference-leading Georgia Perimeter on the road
DECATUR—The Chattahoochee Tech men’s basketball team picked up a crucial road win at conference-leading Georgia Perimeter on Tuesday, Feb. 14, defeating the Jaguars in overtime, 79-73. Thanks to a last-minute comeback in regulation from a 65-58 deficit, the Golden Eagles forced overtime after scoring the next seven points.

Golden Eagles drop pair of games to South Georgia Tech
MARIETTA—Chattahoochee Tech’s basketball teams lost GCAA home games to South Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Southern Polytechnic, dropping both teams’ league records to 5-9. The men’s squad lost for the third time in a row at the final buzzer, as a full-court drive from SGT produced the game-winning lay-up with no time remaining to hand the Golden Eagles a 72-71 loss. The men fell to 15-10 overall.

Freshman point guard Sean Tate named GCAA Player of the Week
The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has named freshman Sean Tate the Player of the Week for Week 4 of the men’s basketball conference season. Tate, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Sequoyah High School in Canton, Ga., averaged 17 points, eight assists and 3.5 steals in two games last week while shooting 17-of-19 from the free-throw line and 50 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

Golden Eagles lose barnburners at home to GCAA foe Albany Tech
SMYRNA— The Chattahoochee Tech basketball squads dropped heartbreakers to Albany Tech on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the Smyrna Community Center. The women’s team kept it close in the second half, drawing to within three points late in the game, but fell 55-49 to the Lady Titans, and the men lost 57-56 on a buzzer-beating, half-court 3-pointer.

SMYRNA—The Chattahoochee Tech basketball squads picked up crucial GCAA wins at home on Sunday, Jan. 29, as the women defeated Andrew College, 78-58, and the men took down Waycross College, 64-52. The wins gave the Golden Eagles regular-season sweeps over the two opponents and kept each team squarely in the middle of the conference race.

Chatt Tech hoops teams drop games at Central Georgia Tech
MACON – On the last game of a three-game road swing, both Chattahoochee Tech basketball teams dropped contests at GCAA opponent Central Georgia Tech on Wednesday, Jan. 25. The Lady Golden Eagles, winners of two of their last three heading into the game, dropped a 77-66 decision to the Lady Cougars, and the men followed with a 64-58 defeat.

Golden Eagles hoops complete home sweep of Atlanta Metro before three-game conference road swing
SMYRNA--The Golden Eagles hoops teams got a sweep over Atlanta Metropolitan College on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Smyrna Community Center, playing two gritty defensive performances against their GCAA opponents. The wins come before the team must embark on a three-game conference road stretch, their longest of the year to date.
