CTC men let one slip away on road at top ranked South Georgia State

Waycross, GA - The visiting Chattahoochee Tech Golden Eagles had the top-ranked South Georgia State on the ropes late, but let the upset bid slip away, falling 64-63.

Leading for much of the way by as many as 10 on several occasions, the Eagles were able to make scoring come at a premium for the Hawks. The Eagles still led 63-56 with just over two minutes remaining, but true to form South Georgia just wouldn't fold. After scoring a basket to trim their deficit to five, SGSC forced the Eagles into taking tough shots on three consecutive offensive possessions down the stretch. Daniel Peace hit a huge three to cut the lead to one with about 44 seconds remaining.

On the ensuing possession, CTC worked the shot clock down and wound up with a long three point attempt by Zach Landis with 11 ticks left that was just off. South Georgia pulled the board and raced the length of the floor, with Jovante' Spivey shoveling up a mid-range runner that bounced off the rim and into the hands of a teammate who pushed it off the backboard with two seconds left, giving the Hawks the 64-63. After a timeound, the Eagles got a good inbounds pass in to AJ Mosby, who got a great look at the basket from about 24 feet out, but it bounced off the back of the rim.

Mosby finished with 19 on the night, while Elijah Robinson had 14 on 4 of 6 shooting from the floor. Zach Landis had an off night in scoring column, with eight, but had nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. Xavier Allen also came off the bench to score nine, including two clutch tri-fectas in the second half.

The loss, was the second straight for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 10-2 overall and 1-2 in the GCAA Conference standings.
