Balanced Scoring Key Eagles to 128-82 win over Summer Hill

Cartersville, GA - The Chatt Tech Golden Eagles turned in a solid, balance offensive performance in picking up the Summer Hill Cup finale, after a 128-82 win over Summer Hill on Sunday evening.

After a little bit of a slow start, the Eagles began generating easy buckets from solid defensive effort. Forcing misses, created transition baskets for Malik and Donald Jordan and Jalen Mitchell got several dribble drives to the basket out of the half-court offense. After building a 35-20 lead, Summer Hill went on a run to trim the lead to 10, but CTC's bench came in with new energy. For the second game in a row, Jeremiah Shaw made an immediate impact with several nice offensive plays, whether it was cleaning up a teammate's miss with a putback or driving the lane. He also slipped behind the defense to receive nifty passes from Keith Ray.

Markel Williams ran the floor well for several baskets, and Phil Garner began to work out of his recent slump, with a trey and several mid-range pullups. In what was one of the best offensive outputs in half for the season, the Eagles took a sizeable 71-35 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles were still scoring at a decent clip, but the starting five again had a let down defensively. During the first five minutes of the half, the Blue Devils found easy baskets on early passes up the floor for both layups and quick threes, producing 21 points during that timeframe. With the lead at 80-56, the CTC bench came in to regain command. Over the next five minutes, they held Summer Hill to only six points, and the lead blossomed to 100-62. Ray and Jamion Simpson fuled the offense, as they combined for 29 in the second half.

The Eagles shot 61% (50/81) from the floor 41.7% from three (10/24), both respectable numbers, but continues to struggle from the line, only making 18 of 31 freethrows for only 58%.

The CTC men will play host to the B2B Diamonds on Wednesday evening at Lakepoint Indoor Pavillion. Tip off is set for 7:30pm.

Notes: The Eagles again played without several players, as Nkem Ojeh sat out; as did Tony Pruitt, who has missed three of the last four games. Nixon Jean-Louis missed his second contest, as he is still with family. The Eagles, who wore throwback "no name" uniforms for the weekend, have now taken all nine Summer Hill Cup titles since it's inception back in 2009.
