SMYRNA – GCAA Division I opponent Atlanta Metro visited the Smyrna Community Center on Sunday and surprised the Golden Eagles with a 70-56 decision in the men's match-up.
The men's squad was doomed by a cold shooting night, connecting on just 21 of 81 (25.9 percent) shots from the floor. The Golden Eagles (9-2, 3-2) also fell behind by 12 at the half at 40-28, but came out of halftime with a 7-0 run to pull within five points. Atlanta Metro (8-5, 3-2) regained control after the rally and picked up the win on the strength of 18 points, all on three-pointers, from Saiquan Terry.
The Golden Eagles got 11 points and six rebounds from Alyja Hennings, and nine points each from Sherrod Wade (six rebounds, two steals) and Alijah Bennett (four rebounds). Markez Dix pulled down 10 rebounds and Elijah Robinson had eight boards to help the Golden Eagles beat Atlanta Metro 61-55 on the glass.
The teams will be back in action at the Smyrna Community Center this Saturday, hosting East Georgia College. The women's game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
