CTC men collect win over West Georgia Tech

CARTERSVILLE – The Chattahoochee Tech men hosted GCAA Division III West Georgia Tech on Friday night at the John H. Morgan Gym in Cartersville, cruising to a 99-72 victory over the non-conference opponent.
After building a seemingly comfortable 35-20 spread over the first 13 minutes of the game, the Golden Eagles went cold and led just 39-35 at halftime, but methodically pulled away in the second period for the comfortable win.

Five Golden Eagles reached double-figure scoring, with sophomore guard Alyja Hennings finishing with 24 points to go along with seven rebounds and a 7-of-7 performance from the free-throw line. Alijah Bennett and Darreontae Moore both followed with 16 points, and Bennett also contributed five rebounds and five assists to go along with four three-pointers.

Elijah Robinson had a double-double for Chattahoochee Tech (9-1) with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Joe Howard chipped in 10 points and Amonte Potter had eight. The Golden Eagles shot over 42 percent from three on a 14-of-33 performance.

The win was Coach David Archer's 100th win as the head coach of the CTC men's program. His overall record now stands at 100-39.

The Chattahoochee Tech hoops teams return to the Smyrna Community Center on Sunday for a doubleheader against conference foe Atlanta Metro, with tip-off for the women's game at 2:30 p.m. and the men's game to directly follow. The men, at 3-1 in conference, are seeking their fourth straight GCAA Division I victory after dropping an 86-81 opener to Georgia Highlands, while the women's team (0-5) is still looking for its first league win. Atlanta Metro comes into the match-ups at 7-5, 2-2 for the men and 0-8, 0-3 for the women.
