CTC men defeat West Georgia Tech, 97-80

Carrollton, GA – Nov. 7, 2014 – The Golden Eagles went on the road Friday night to take on the West Georgia Technical College Golden Knights. After struggling to find offense in the early going, the Eagles finally got cranked up in the second half and grinded out a 97-80 win.

The Golden Knights, never a team to give in, made it tough for CTC in the first half with their fast paced style of offense. The Eagles, suffering from foul trouble, found themselves down by four at one point in the first half, before settling down and beginning to find offensive opportunities. Freshman AJ Mosby was a big part of that as he tallied nine points in the opening stanza, to help CTC to a 44-40 half-time lead.

The Eagles opened the second half with strong run, as the defense tightened up, and Mosby, along with Zach Landis and Dimychael Ross capitalized with a series of easy baskets. Pushing the lead out to 24 at one point, the Eagles' reserves seemingly relaxed down the stretch. The Knights, who are the GCAA DIII 3-time defending champs were not going to go away easily, as they cut the score down to 10, through the scoring of Marize Spearman and Trenton Madison. But, CTC was able to stabilize in the closing minutes and push the spread back out to 17 by the time the buzzer sounded.

For WGTC, Spearman led all scorers with 22 on the night, while Madison had 13 and Martez Winston 12.

Mosby paced Chatt Tech with 20 points, while also going six of six from the free throw line, while Ross had 17 and Landis 14. Bryce Wooten came off the bench to provide 13 and six boards. Trevin Steede also had nine on the night.

The Eagles who moved to 2-0 on the young season, will now come home to host Summer Hill on Sunday afternoon in Cartersville.
