Chatt Tech men garner 77-65 win over Gadsden State in GA/AL Juco Clash

Rome, GA - Nov. 22, 2014 - The Chattahoochee Tech men's basketball team picked up a 77-65 win over Gadsden State on Saturday to represent the GCAA well in the inaugural GA/AL Juco Clash at Georgia Highlands College.

The lead changed hands a number of times in the early going, before Gadsden found the lane for several consecutive buckets to inch out to an 18-14 lead. AJ Mosby got a layin after a Gadsden turnover, then a runner in the lane to trigger an 8-0 run, putting the Eagles up 22-18. Up 32-27 with just 45 seconds left in the hald, the Eagles got two freethrows from Carl Washington, then another layin off of a steal. Then, after another turnover with just one second showing on the clock, Zach Landis was fouled on the inbounds attempt and sank two more from the charity stripe, to help Chatt Tech take a 38-27 spread into the locker room.

Gadsden opened the second half scoring four straight points, including a three pointer to quickly trim the lead to 38-31, but Mosby answered with a three of his own, which kickstarted another 8-0 run, helping the Eagles build a 46-31 cushion. Seemingly beginning to take control, the Golden Eagles suffered several lulls in offensive efficiency, failing to capitalize on transition opportunities. Gadsden took advantage, kept fighting and cut the score to seven or eight on a couple of occasions down the stretch.

Later, with several in foul trouble in the second half, and Washington feeling physically ill and unable to go, Eagle reserves were relied on to make key plays. Khalil Haynes-Robinson hit a clutch three pointer to push CTC's lead back to 10 at 61-51. With Gadsden just not giving in, the Eagles kept coming up with big plays to thwart the comeback attempt. Trevin Steede took a charge in the lane, keeping Gadsden from possibly cutting the score to six, then Mosby converted an old fashioned three point play after being fouled on a lay-in - inching the Eagle lead back out to 70-57. Landis later, created a seam to drop a lay-in, making the score 72-60, followed by a pin point lob from just past half court to a high flying Bryce Wooten for a statement-making slam.

Tevin Wise paced Gadsden's offense with 19 points, while Darius Bush had 11 and Christian Hutchinson eight. Gadsden was 1-22 from the three point line for the game, and was held to 34% shooting from the field overall.

Chatt Tech, who as 31-62 from the field (50%), got 18 from Mosby, 14 from Landis and 13 from Dimychael Ross. Haynes-Robinson came off the bench to contribute nine, while Washington and Joe Howard each had six.

After the Thanksgiving break, the Eagles will next host Rome Elite Academy on Monday, December 1st at Smyrna Community Center. Tipoff is set for 7:30pm.

Women's Hoops Notes: The CTC Lady Eagles fell to 1-5 after a tough 85-47 defeat to a very good Gadsden women's team. They will host Spartanburg Methodist on Dec. 1st at 5:30pm at Smyrna Community Center.
