Griffin, GA - November 14, 2014 - The Lady Eagles came out very flat in the first half, and could not complete the comeback attempt late in the second half on the road at Southern Crescent, eventually dropping a 58-51 decision.
With several new players in uniform, the Lady Eagles had trouble finding continuity on the floor in the early going. And, starters Asha Abdur-Rahim, Aujaia Cox, Alexia Johnson and newcomer Deidra Morris couldn't seem to find the basket the entire game, as they combined to go 1 for 29 from the field for the game.
Down 28-16 at the half, Janelly Plummer came out strong in the second half and was doing all she could to kickstart the Lady Eagles, scoring in bunches. Still down 10 with about 8 minutes to go, Plummer finally got a little help from Darlecia Bonds who scored two consecutive buckets, which triggered a run for the Lady Eagles that saw them race back to tie the score at 51-all with just over a minute left. SCTC seemed to have gone cold, but the Lady Eagles failed to capitalize on three straight possessions which could have finally given them the lead. Plummer and Bonds each missed layups and Southern Crescent calmly sank freethrows on the other end to seal the victory in the final seconds.
Shakeirra Copeland scored 23 for SCTC, as Kaneisha Benjamin also chipped in with 16.
For the Lady Eagles, who fell to 1-2 on the season, Janelly Plummer poured in 37 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and got four steals. Bonds managed 11 points and five steals.
The Lady Eagles will host Chattanooga State on Monday night at the Smyrna Community Center.
