Decatur, GA - The Golden Eagles learn a lesson in adversity and perseverance on the road at GPC, in fighting back from a double-digit deficit to set up and exciting buzzer beating shot by freshman AJ Mosby to steal a 60-58 win over the Panthers.
The CTC men's basketball team jumped out to an 11-1 lead early in the game, only to quickly go cold. Bad shot selection and physical play by the Panthers took the Eagles by surprise. GPC gradually worked its way back into the game, and took a slim 25-24 lead into the break.
Things got worse in the second half for the Eagles, as GPC took advantage of a slow rotating zone, hitting four threes over a several minute stretch to build a 13 point lead. Still down double digits with six and half minutes remaining, the Eagles came alive by increasing their defensive pressure. GPC coughed the ball up several times, allowing a window for the Eagles to get back in it late.
The Eagles cut their deficit to one at 58-57 with about 20 seconds left, followed by a another turnover by GPC. The Eagles called a timeout with eight ticks on the clock. On the inbounds, the ball was reversed to Mosby who was able to get the ball off clean over a GPC defender, hitting the trey with two seconds on the clock, to put CTC up 60-58. GPC was unable to get off a shot at the buzzer, as the inbounds was deflected by a CTC defender.
Xavier Allen had another stellar night scoring 19 points making 8 of 9 shots from the field. Mosby, who was heavily guarded all night, finished with a tough 16 points, while Dimychael Ross had 11 and Elijah Robinson seven.
