Cartersville, GA - The Chatt Tech men's basketball team, coached by head coach David Archer, opens the much anticipated 2016-17 season on Wednesday night against the Summer Hill Blue Devil men.
Coming off a 22-10 season last year, the Golden Eagles seek to establish themselves early in the season in game #1. Consistency throughout the season is the goal, after last year's campaign saw a 17-1 start, and #13 national ranking, hit a disappointing skid, before regenerating and advancing to the NJCAA Region XVII/District 13 Final Four.
Ben Drake (6'8 post), Nkem Ojeh (6'6 PF), Malik Jordan (5'11 PG) and 6'5 SF Keith Ray all return to provide a solid core. Jordan Oliver, 6'5 SF, was also slated to return but has suffered a potentially season-ending hand injury which will require several injuries and much rehab to repair. But, newcombers, such as transfers 6'5 Dajon Fuller (Hillgrove HS/Snead St), 6'5 Jalen Mitchell (Collins Hill/SGTC) and 6'2 sharp-shooter Philip Garner (Whitewater/East GA) extend a nice blend of scoring abilities for the Eagles. Nixon Jean-Louis (6'4 forward), Jeremiah Shaw, a 6'2 combo gaurd, who previously played football at Jacksonville State, along with 6'2 transfer Tony Pruitt, each present the Eagles with a level of toughness all teams need.
Combo Guards, Jamion Simpson (6'0, ASA) and Malik Chandler (6'0, Shiloh HS), headline a core of in-coming freshman, which will provide a respectable depth on both ends of the floor. Simpon's scoring prowess, coupled with Chandler's steady handles and the defensive abilities of fellow freshmen 6'3 Donald Jordan (Josey HS), 6'6 Markel Williams (McEachern HS) and 6'6 Kyler Haynes (Butler HS) give the Eagles some much-needed balance.
Tipoff is set for 7:30pm on Wednesday evening.
