Emerson, GA - The CTC men jumped out to a double digit lead a few minutes into the contest and rode it to a nice win over a quick Southern Crescent team on Friday at Lakepoint Sporting Community.
The teams traded baskets in the opening moments, but Malik Jordan began to establish himself with several nifty drives to the basket, in which he either finished or drew the foul and got points at the line. He also hit a deft mid-range step back, to help CTC begin to create a spread in the score. Keith Ray also hit a couple of long range bombs to bolster the lead. The Eagles took a 41-21 lead into the half.
Southern Crescent, who struggled to find the basket for a sizeable chunk of the first half, scored the first two baskets of the second half, to begin to make things interesting. But, Jordan found himself at the line again, and later Jalen Mitchell got going for a string of points. The offense, coupled with a flurry of blocked shots from Nkem Ojeh and Ben Drake on the other end which kept SCTC's shooting struggles prevalent, allowed the Eagles to break the game open down the stretch.
The 5-0 CTC Eagles now get set to go on the road to play in a tough environment at Gadsden State on Monday evening, on their homecoming night. Last year in Gadsden, CTC narrowly escaped the Cardinals in an 81-78 thriller. Tip off is set for 7:30pm (CST).
