Southern Crescent outplays sluggish Eagles, 70-63

Griffin, GA - Eagles struggle to find basket inside the dark, damp Taylor Street Gym on Tuesday night, as Tigers take advantage and take the 70-63 win.

The Eagles trailed 7-2 early in the game, but seemingly settled in, building a double-digit lead on the heels of a couple of long threes from Malik Jordan. But, the trouble began to rear it's head, as CTC missed on numerous changes to increase what was a 27-16 lead with about 8 minutes left. The squandered CTC opportunities gave SCTC new life, as then embarked on a 22-7 run to close the half with a 38-34 lead.

The second half didn't get much better for the Eagles, as lack of patience on offense resulted in low percentage perimeter attempts, which the Tigers turned into transition baskets on occasion. The CTC men did manage to fight back to tie the game on two different occasions, but SCTC was able to find lanes to the basket for layins or easy dump offs, to reclaim the leads. Yet, with 40 seconds remaining and trailing only 66-63, Jamion Simpson's three attempt in the corner just missed. The Eagles were forced to foul, which Southern Crescent calmly sank to ice the game.

The CTC men shot a season worst 37% (24-64) from the floor, along with 28% (8/28) from the 3-point line and a dismal 43% from the freethrow line (7/16). SCTC also outhustled the Eagles while grabbing 28 offensive rebounds for the game.

The Eagles, who slipped to 7-2, will now prepare to compete the annual Summer Hill Cup, where they face off against BaselineUSA on Saturday at 7:30pm, followed by a 6:00pm tilt on Sunday against Summer Hill.
