ALBANY – The Golden Eagles men's hoops team got a valuable GCAA road win at Albany Tech on Wednesday, pulling out the 83-78 victory in double overtime. Chattahoochee Tech's Alyja Hennings scored seven points in the second overtime after the first extra period ended at 68-68.
Chattahoochee Tech (15-3, 7-3) trailed 22-17 at halftime, but outscored the Titans 43-38 in the second half to tie the score at the end of regulation. With the regulars sputtering, it was the reserve crew who turned the tide in the second half for the Eagles, as Carl Washington, Reggie Thompson, Delante Warner, Darreontae Moore came off the bench in the second half to combine for 23 points, including five three pointers during crunch time. After battling to send it to overtime, then forcing the second extended period, the Eagles were able to get key buckets in the final minute, followed by Amonte Potter making a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining in the second overtime to put the game away.
Hennings scored 19 points overall and pulled down nine rebounds, while Amonte Potter led the team with 21 points. Washington finished with eight points and nine rebounds, while Thompson and Warner each contributed six. Moore, Marcelus Bradley and Sherrod Wade all had five. Wade also grabbed 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
Kyman Woods and Loren Hall scored 17 and 16, respectively, to lead Albany Tech.
Both teams will be in action this Saturday in another GCAA league game at Georgia Highlands in Rome, as the women tip off at 1 p.m. and the men follow at 3 p.m.
