Eagles pull away from GHC in second half for big conference win

ROME, Ga. – The Golden Eagles men's basketball team overpowered GCAA foe Georgia Highlands 85-72 on Saturday, pushing the Golden Eagles' overall record to 16-3, 8-3 in conference.

Alijah Bennett scored a game-high 23 points to go along with 10 assists. His three three-pointers early in the second half helped the Golden Eagles grow a 36-33 halftime lead into a margin that was as much as 20 points. Joe Howard scored 13 points with five rebounds, and Alyja Hennings and Reggie Thompson were the other Golden Eagle in double-figure scoring with 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Markez Dix contributed nine rebounds to lead the team, and Amonte Potter came up with four steals. Chattahoochee Tech's balanced scoring effort saw three additional players with seven points.

For the game, the Golden Eagles shot 35-of-59 from the field and 11-of-20 from beyond the three-point line, including 7-of-11 in the second half. CTC held its largest lead with 2:23 left in the game with an 82-62 margin.

Kentavious Clowers led Georgia Highlands (7-12, 4-7) in scoring with 20 points.

The men's team will be back in action on Wednesday at the Smyrna Community Center for a home game against Southern Crescent Tech in a non-league contest, and the women will next travel to Andrew College for a GCAA game on Saturday.
