SMYRNA – Chattahoochee Tech basketball returned to GCAA play on Wednesday with an 89-67 men's win over the South Georgia State Hawks.
The Golden Eagles men (13-2, 5-2) led 39-34 at halftime, but made nine 3-pointers in the second half to pull away from the Hawks. Alijah Bennett was the Golden Eagles' leading scorer with 20 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Bennett helped spark the Golden Eagles' shooting spree in the second half, hitting three 3-pointers. Sherrod Wade had a strong game off the bench, shooting 6-for-9 from the field on his way to 16 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Alyja Hennings and Amonte Potter scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Markez Dix and Marcelus Bradley shared the team lead in rebounds with six apiece. Jovante' Spivey led the Hawks (9-5, 2-2) in scoring with 17 points.
With the win, Chattahoochee Tech took over sole possession of first place in GCAA play.
Both the women's and men's teams will travel to Americus on Saturday to take on South Georgia Tech. The Jets currently sit in a tie for second place in conference play at 4-2 and a 13-3 overall.
